Text Box: 01 FALLEN
Well, most of the songs on the album were written when my relationship with the mother of my children had fallen apart and that was just my way of dealing with it. I had to get rid of some bad feelings and this is one of the harder songs on the album

02 CHOSEN ONE
This took Slott and myself forever to get going... But when it did we both went, wow, this rocks! We had done a demo but it was going nowhere and it was actually the first song we did. We picked it up again as the last song, changed the riff a little bit and we found the magic that we both knew was in the song. Honestly, this is one of my favourites!

03 SHALLOW
Great lyrics by my very good friend Matt deserved a fine treatment, lol! It all came very naturally, it only took me a couple of hours to get a decent demo done. We tried to make it sound modern with the noisy guitars and heavy harmony guitars mixed with my melodic vocals. One of the first times in history someone else has written the lyrics for one of my songs! Also a natural pick for the first video.

04 THE CLOWN
Looking back at what I have done in my life up to this point as a man and father... being in a long term relationship and raising a family is NOT always easy. Life is sometimes very hard and even though you try the best you can sometimes you just feel like a clown! Great solo by Slott on this one, lots of emotion.

05 WISH
One of the things that has annoyed me in recent years is the number of reality TV shows where people stand in line just to become famous - you don’t have to work to get there you just do something stupid on tv and you get your 15 minutes of fame!! This song are some of the thoughts that has run through my mind when I (by mistake) have been watching some of the shit on tv. To make it authentic and updated I added breakbeats in the verses. But then reality kicks in with hard guitars and some killer drumming from Jake!

06 FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH
The only real ballad on the album and the song in history that I have spent most time making. Week in week out I tried different things with this song before I decided on this version. I am very happy with the way it turned out and I think the entire band proves why they play with me, lol, it’s a very solid performance - thank you guys!! The words says it all, ”For what it’s worth, I am still around”

07 SWIMMING IN YOUR BLUE EYES
Probably the one song on Road To Salvation that sounds most like the good old days (the 80’s). I added the piano harmony at the very end just before we entered Jailhouse Studios to do the mix but I think it adds some feeling to the song. Some Bon Jovi inspired bass by BJ in the verse - just the way I like it, he, he

08 SILENCE SITS AT MY THRONE
Third set of fine lyrics by Matt and again a song that ROCKS. I like the tightness of the instruments on Silence, very controlled. Some scary thoughts going through the writers mind... Again, heavy song with a fine melody on top - the trademark of MPG.

09 KILL THE PAIN
Once again Matt delivers some breathtaking lyrics that I very easily found the music for. I am very proud that I got to sing these lyrics, they are out of this world. A classic MPG riff build around a pop chorus with a blistering solo and lead guitar frenzy at the end of the song around the leadsinger improvising, yeah, yeah!!

10 WAITIN’ IN LINE
We had to redo Waitin’. I have said it many times before, I consider this one of my best songs ever and we play it live at every show but the new MPG fans didn’t know it too well so now is the chance to get to know it and hear it as it sounds today 8 years after it was written and recorded the first time.

11 ALL I HAVE
Some of the weirdest lyrics I have written but in some strange way they make perfect sense, don’t they?? I guess it’s all about the mood you’re in when listening. The most important thing is that this song rocks. And listen to Slott’s ethnic inspired solo - we had a laugh when he did it, joking that it could have been in the Pulp Fiction movie

12 ROAD TO SALVATION
From a hard rocking intro through a verse and bridge that are very mellow and then into a chorus that aims at the stars (it even has me doing a bit of a falsetto!!) and then back to the hard hitting solo. The end of the song could have been Springsteen but it’s not - it’s MPG, we’re not afraid to cover new ground!! Very personal lyrics here, the reason I chose to call the album Road To Salvation is quite obvious when you listen to this song

NOT YET RELEASED

13 TWO HEARTS
This IS Springsteen, lol! We did this one live in 2005 and thought it would be cool to record it, it sounds like we do live. Not many overdubs on this one which is a rare thing these days
TRACK BY TRACK

On the first MPG album we did in 2005 I invited many of my friends to play so we had different lineups on different tracks which was great at the time. This time around I wanted it to be a band effort so it’s just the four of us playing on all songs and that is a very satisfying feeling. Let’s take a closer look at the songs...
